Cogeco Cable Selects Sigma
Systems' Service Management Portfolio To Migrate Customers From
Excite@Home
Cogeco Cable Now Provides Autonomous,
Continued Support For All Its High Speed Internet Customers
Anaheim, CA, (Western Cable Show, Booth 4601)/ Montreal, Quebec/
Toronto, ON - November 27, 2001 - Sigma Systems, the cable
industry's leading provider of service management solutions has
successfully helped Cogeco Cable in migrating its Ontario
Division High Speed Internet ("HSI") customers from Excite@Home
to Cogeco Cable's own data center.
As a result of Excite@Home's financial situation and related
bankruptcy court proceedings, Cogeco Cable needed to migrate
their subscribers from Excite@Home's service and network
management systems to new platforms and standards. This
migration project, a technically complex initiative, needed to
be completed without inconveniencing Cogeco Cable's existing HSI
customers, supporting Cogeco's desire to provide its own
autonomous and continuous Internet services to its customers.
At Cogeco Cable, the migration project focused on transferring
all their Ontario HSI customers from the Excite@Home service
platform to Cogeco Cable's advanced platform. To accomplish this
mission-critical and complex process, Sigma pre-provisioned
existing Excite@Home email accounts over Sigma's Service
Management Portfolio as cogeco.ca accounts as well as created
new user accounts and log-in passwords for all Cogeco Cable's
customers. Sigma also provided Cogeco Cable with its
professional services supporting the entire migration process.
The first phase of this two-phased project consisted of Sigma
providing a new provisioning and workflow solution onto Cogeco
Cable's IP platform to replace the Excite@Home service. In the
second phase, Sigma assisted in the actual migration of existing
customers from Excite@Home to Cogeco's IP platform.
"Through this migration, we demonstrated our leadership position
not only to Cogeco Cable - our very valued customer - but to the
cable industry at large," said Stephen Nicolle, CEO and
President, Sigma Systems. "Our two-phased approach worked
exceptionally well, supporting Cogeco Cable in providing
long-term autonomous support to their customers. And to us, as
the cable industry's leading provider of service management
solutions - that's what really matters - our customers and their
own subscribers."
"Once we made the decision to take in-house the services
previously offered by Excite@Home we turned to Sigma Systems,"
said Denis Bélanger, Vice President, Corporate Engineering and
Development for Cogeco Cable. "As an industry leader with proven
products and significant deployment experience, Sigma's
attention to detail and top notch service management solutions
proved invaluable."
"With this migration we now serve our customers end-to-end --- a
very significant milestone," added Bélanger. "Thanks to the
Sigma Service Management Portfolio, we are better able to
address the needs of our residential and commercial customers in
a seamless, hassle-free fashion. This helps us provide the most
reliable services to our HSI subscribers, who are increasingly
dependent on our wide range of next-generation services."
In an industry where thousands of orders are received weekly,
Sigma's Service Management Portfolio automatically and reliably
activates service to a market increasingly dependent on
broadband access to the home. The product allows cable companies
like Cogeco Cable to rapidly define new service offerings to
compete with other DSL, satellite and fixed wireless service
providers. Sigma's integrated solution is not only a milestone
achievement among operations support systems suppliers, but
notably a first in the burgeoning global cable OSS industry.
"We've noted a number of similar offerings in the past few
weeks," adds Nicolle. Very simply - we've delivered what others
are still planning to deliver. And that is why we are the
leading provider of service management solutions to cable
operators worldwide."
